As you know, the former ICOC is no longer an
entity. Now,
no one church is "over" any other church. However, The Florida churches
have agreed that we need to support one another and maintain the
fellowship between churches. The Council consists of 14 men
coming from 7 different churches with the purpose to meet the
needs of the Mission churches in South America and Haiti that are
supported by Florida churches. We have forged unity in order to ensure
that our second generation churches are not neglected. We
believe this is a unique model for the kingdom, as we are working
together in a very unified manner to help spread the gospel. The group began with a meeting in March 2004 in Tampa. Since then
we've met each month or so in a different Florida city. We've
traveled to Orlando, Gainesville, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee. In
each city we have invited the local church boards and other interested
members to participate. The goal is to communicate
broadly with all parties so that we can have a consensus concerning our
work in South America. Stay tuned for a meeting coming up in your
city!
1.) All local church boards have agreed on the purpose and nature of the Council. Each church no matter the size has two representatives on the council. These can be paid church staff, or working members. We have an even mix, which helps ensure all perspectives are considered. 2.) We've voted on officers. Congratulations to Terry Folker from Fort Myers, who is the Chairman. The Vice Chairman is Martin Bentley from Orlando. Both of these brothers bring a great deal of expertise to our goal of missions. 3.) One of our most exciting initiatives to date is the pairing between Florida churches and South American churches. We believe this measure will increase personal interaction and inspiration. 4.) All seven local church boards in Florida have approved and committed to the 2004/2005 Missions budget for all of South America! Shortly we plan to present Missions goals to the local congregations. 5.) More information will follow, but to date we've established the following Sub-Committee's FINANCE, chaired by Orlando, FUTURE STRATAGIES, chaired by S. Florida, COMMUNICATIONS, chaired by Jacksonville There is much that has been accomplished through hours of patient discussion and research, but much work remains. We desire to learn from the past, yet are aware that there is much to be improved upon. If you have any thoughts, ideas or questions regarding missions, please feel free to share them with a committee member from your local congregation. We represent you and would love to hear from you! We also encourage you to attend our open meetings when we visit your city.

We
are excited to announce the formation of the Florida Missions Council.
This newsletter will be produced by the council in order to communicate
to all our churches the great things that are happening. We are in the
process of developing a web presence that will be hosted by the South
Florida Church. See their web site at
